Supporting Rigor in the Classroom

Participants will deepen their understanding of the three components of rigor–environment, instruction, and demonstrated learning—through the lens of teaching frameworks, hands-on activities, and classroom video analysis, culminating in actionable planning for immediate application in their classrooms.

This workshop begins with a discussion of what rigor is and is not. Next, the three critical areas unpinning rigor (environment, instruction, and demonstrated learning) will be explored. Specifically, we will take a deep dive into these areas through the lens of several teaching frameworks. Tools such as Bloom's Taxonomy and Webb’s Depth of Knowledge will be explored through hands-on activities. Participants will then use “Look Fors” to identify these best practices in video clips of real classrooms. Lastly, participants will begin planning how to apply strategies learned for immediate use in their classrooms.
