Integrating the Revised NJSLS for ELA into Social Studies Curriculum and Instruction

Participants will explore the influence of the updated NJSLS for English Language Arts on social studies curriculum and instruction, unpacking key grade-level standards, examining the standards' construct, and considering instructional and assessment implications, supported by strategies and resources for implementation.

The updated NJSLS not only transform the landscape of ELA, but also have a profound influence on the realm of social studies through interdisciplinary standard integration. This workshop offers a comprehensive look at the newly adopted New Jersey Student Learning Standards for English Language Arts as they affect social studies curriculum and instruction. Participants will engage in unpacking information for key social studies-related, grade level-specific standards. Participants will examine the construct of the new standards as designed for different grade levels, considering key areas of change for their content area. Finally, participants will consider the impact the new standards will have on instruction and assessment while being provided with strategies and resources for implementation.
